First Hour Christian Life Electives - Summer 2009
The summer session of Christian Life Electives during the 8:55 hour began Sunday, June 7. However, these are not closed classes and you can visit or join any one of them at anytime.
What The Science Channel Won’t Tell You: When you watch a nature program on the Science Channel, Discovery Channel, National Geographic Channel, etc., do you get the feeling that they are not telling you the whole story? Are you at a loss to understand how such programs mesh with the Bible? Join us on a survey of modern scientific thought.... where it does (and doesn’t) line up with the Bible, in a non-technical presentation format. This class will be taught by Dan Vaughn in room 323 upstairs.
The Truth Project: Today’s believers live very similarly to non-believers. A personal sense of significance is rarely experienced. We spend our money and time on things that fail to satisfy and we begin to wonder what life’s ultimate purpose really is. We are, in short, losing our bearings as God’s people. The Truth Project challenges these issues by helping Christ Followers develop a Biblical worldview. Pastor Steve Truitt will teach this class in the Few Chapel.
X-EE: When it comes to sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ, most Christians feel guilty because they are scared and ill-equipped. How can they connect with people? How can they find a relevant and relational way of sharing their faith with their peers? Through X-EE believers step out of their comfort zone, find common ground with others and develop skills to effectively share the Gospel. This class will be taught by Don VanSickel in room 321 upstairs.
Foundations: Do you have questions about the Christian faith? Are you just trying to figure this Christian thing out? Have you been away from church for awhile? Are you interested in learning about being a Christ Follower? Are you curious about how to apply Christianity to your everyday life? Do you have questions about what and whom to believe about the Bible? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then Foundations is for you. This smaller group, discussion format class will be led by Norm Velguth in the Missions Office, located off the Activities Center hallway.
To the Parents of . . . : This class will focus on the seven progress reports given to the Churches of Asia in the Book of Revelation. The course will survey what Christ says about each of the seven churches, identify their strengths and weaknesses and compare them to the church today. Class teaching and discussion will be led by Norm Fox in room 322 upstairs.
